Resist Henna Technique

There are many styles of mehndi. Today, embellishments like glitter, mica gel, and sequins are added to traditional mehndi designs to make them more modern looking. One technique we’ve been “ooh” ing and “aww”ing over is this resist technique. A tutorial can be found on the Henna Page. Basically, a “glue” paste is mixed and applied like you would henna. Then the henna is filled into the negative space of your dried paste design. Once you’ve done that, henna can be spread onto the skin to cover the entire design, or can even be spread around to look like a cuff. In the end you get a reverse henna design. Other artists like Bella Henna practice resist henna. Other methods of resist henna are to use surgical tape cut into various widths. This will give you more of a geometric pattern, and it’s always fun to mix and match the two methods! We love the designs that mix resist henna and traditional application of henna, this brings depth to your designs and is even more amazing to look at!
