Removing Henna with Solar/Micellar Water
By: Liberty Lomonaco ~ 3/1/2022

Mehndi Madness has seen its fair share of smeared henna designs, and we are always happy to fix the design as best as possible. However, sometimes you get ones that are beyond repair and will show up as a smeared mess regardless of what we do to fix the design. It’s why we like to research ways of removing henna smears and share what we think are the best solutions. We have a few blogs on removing henna that states the many ways you can try and allows for you to find what best works for you and your skin, (Link to blog: How to Remove a Henna Tattoo), but in this blog we’ll be looking at one method specifically, using Solar/Micellar water.

What is Solar/Micellar water?

➢ Physically, Micellar water is made up of purified water, a type of moisturizer like Glycerin, and mild surfactant compounds used for cleansing the body's surface area. With these ingredients they join together to form micelles, a type of spherical chemical structure that helps pull dirt and oil from the skin

➢ Generally, Micellar water is a multipurpose skin care product that has been used for facial cleansers and the like. Micelles gently cleanse the skin and breaks down oil, makeup, and other pigments like henna.

This is one of the gentler ways of removing henna, it’s free of alcohol and may even improve the health of your skin by hydrating and reducing inflammation and irritation, also making the skin soft and smooth.

Applying the Solar/Micellar water

➢ Apply the Solar/ Micellar water to a cloth and use the soaked cloth or cotton ball/swab on the skin and begin to rub the henna area you wish to remove. There’s no need to viciously scrub the area, a light and gentle scrub across the top should be enough to remove the stain.

➢ If you wish to save most of the henna try working around the design, clearing the smudged area of henna.

➢ These next photos will show the effects of using the Solar/Micellar water. The top left photo is before the smear, top right is after the smear, and the bottom shows the effects of the Solar/Micellar water. Although, some of the smears can still be seen there is great improvement in the overall look of the henna.

Mehndi Madness always wishes for the best outcome for our henna designs, but sometimes blank happens and we get to roll with the punches. Solar/ Micellar water is usually sold at any drug/convenience store. Mehndi Madness recommends Garnier Skin Active Micellar cleansing water with Rose water and Glycerin for the best results.
